The Coach

A bit about me

Sport and being active have always been important to me. From competitive football and CrossFit to mountain biking, running, snowboarding and more recently the occasional game of padel, I've always enjoyed the challenge of keeping fit, developing my abilities and pushing myself.

Now, approaching fifty, I'm as active as I've ever been, but my perspective on fitness has evolved. It's become less about chasing personal bests and more about maintaining the strength, fitness and freedom to keep doing the things I enjoy, for as long as possible.

That's not to say I've lost my enthusiasm for training hard. My introduction to structured strength and conditioning came through CrossFit, where I spent many years training, competing and later coaching at my local gym. I developed a real interest in strength training, functional movement and the principles behind effective programming.

In my early-forties I was the strongest I'd ever been, deadlifting almost three times my bodyweight, but experience has also taught me that effective training isn't simply about lifting heavier or pushing harder. Injuries and changing priorities have shaped my approach, reinforcing the importance of intelligent programming, appropriate progression and recovery.

These days, I still train hard and enjoy challenging myself, but with a more considered approach. My focus is on developing and maintaining strength, mobility and conditioning that support life outside the gym. Being strong is about more than how much you can lift. It's about longevity and what that strength allows you to do as you get older.

I understand that finding time to train isn't always easy. I've spent much of my working life in desk based jobs, balancing work and family commitments. I've experienced the frustration of training taking a back seat and know how difficult it can be to establish a consistent routine. That experience has shaped the way I approach coaching.

As a qualified Level 3 Personal Trainer and Sports Nutritionist, I bring together my professional knowledge, practical coaching (and life) experience and years of personal training to help people become stronger, move better and improve their overall fitness.

Whether that means developing strength, improving movement and mobility, building cardiovascular fitness or simply feeling more capable in everyday life, my approach is based on structured, progressive training tailored to the individual.

I'm particularly interested in helping people who, like me, recognise the importance of maintaining their physical capabilities as they get older.

My coaching style is relaxed, encouraging and practical. I'll take time to understand your goals, explain what we're doing and why, and help you develop the confidence and ability to make meaningful progress.

I don't believe fitness needs to take over your life to make a difference. What matters is finding an approach that's effective, rewarding, and sustainable enough to maintain alongside everything else.

Whether you're new to strength training, returning after a break or looking to take your fitness further, I'll help you develop a programme that challenges you appropriately and progresses as you do.

You don't need to be fit to start. We'll begin where you are and build from there.
